This workshop will explore the use of ubiquitous and interactive technologies to promote offline interaction. As technology has become increasingly mobile and connected, and people’s daily information practices include substantial amounts of mobile online interaction, people’s offline interactions have suffered. The typical example of this situation is a group of people sitting at a table and each using their mobile phone to check emails, text remote friends, or read news. The goal of this workshop is to examine how we can build technologies that promote social offline interactions -- "SOFTec" for short.
